Welcome to Room 12's Wikipage!

Room 12 is a New Entrant class taught by Bronwyn Sims. We have another New Entrant class at Waiau Pa School - Room 11 which is taught by Tracey Norton.
Room 11 and 12 work alongside each other and run very similar programmes so the children from both rooms are able to successfully work in either class.
In both of these rooms we encourage independence as we believe when children are able to carry out tasks independently, their confidence grows and this encourages risk taking in their learning and develops a 'have a go' attitude to new tasks.

We encourage our parents and families to support their children in developing independence by doing simple tasks such as
  • allowing children to be involved in simple house hold chores
  • encouraging the children to pack their own school bag and carry it
  • encouraging the children to be involved in the making and packing of their school lunch
  • by having a 'Kiss and Go' spot so the children are encouraged to walk into class unassisted

We also promote the concept that it is OK to make mistakes and this is what learning is all about
FAIL - First Attempt At LearningWhen your child is attempting to do carry out an independent task at home and they are not successful the first time around, encourage them to make some changes and have another go..... failure is a huge part of learning!
